Newly installed 1942MK2 radar blows fuse

Question

My newly installed 1942MK2 radar blows the included power cable in-line fuse. The battery is charged properly for a 12 volt system. What could cause this problem?

Solution

Please check the following areas.

1. Check for proper polarity of wiring, White is positive(+) and Black is negative(-). If these are reversed the fuse will blow because of an internal protection device.

2. Confirm the proper fuse is used for your particular supplied voltage. Some systems require a certain value fuse for different voltage levels (because of the different current flow values). The 1942MK2 for example uses a "5 amp" fuse for 24-32 volt systems, but requires a "10 amp" fuse for a 12 volt system.

3. Disconnect radar antenna cable and any other interface cables on the radar display. Leave the power cable attached, try to power on the display, if the display powers on normally, please check the following.

4. Check for crushed or bare wiring.

5. If any cables were cut, spliced, or de-pinned (to run through pipes, etc.) confirm that they were repaired or correctly located on the right terminals.
