Position: Deep Sea Field Engineer

Location: Denton, Maryland*
*WFH within normal commuting distance to serve customers in New York-Newark, NY-NJ-CT-PA region.

Travel: Up to 80% travel to client sites located in New York-Newark, NY-NJ-CT-PA region, and headquarters up to 1-2 times a year required. Possible international travel 1-2 times per year.

Duties: Travel to customers’ vessels to troubleshoot and repair deep-sea electronic equipment. Inspect and test electronic equipment, components, and assemblies using specialized multi-meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and other electronic test instruments and tools. Provide detailed service reports and enter data into Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Service Management System (SMS) systems for each vessel attended. Identify and recommend solutions for shipboard equipment problems specifically based on oversea product capabilities and applications. Provide technical assistance to customers on the company’s commercial product line. Conduct Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) annual performance tests and issue VDR Annual Performance Test (APT) certificates of compliance. Conduct annual radio, Automatic Identification System (AIS), Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), and Signal Security Assessment System (SSAS) surveys. Develop test specifications and procedures for equipment to ensure products will deliver expected performance. Interface equipment with products from other manufacturers, including personal computer (PC) software to confirm and/or evaluate compatibility.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or a closely related field (foreign equivalent accepted), and


Experience: 2 years' experience as a Deep Sea Field Engineer, Deep Sea Field Technician, Deep Sea Field Service Technician or similar position.

License:

  • FCC license with radar endorsement and GMDSS maintainer endorsements, or eligibility within 18 months. Renewable Federal TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card), or eligibility within 60 days.

Skills/Requirements:

Client needs and work volume may require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job. This position requires working on-call, weekends, evenings, and holidays.

2 years' experience in each of the following:

  1. Inspecting Furuno deep sea electronic equipment, components, and assemblies using specialized test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, RF power meters and frequency counters, spectrum analyzers, ethernet line analyzers, transducer testers and MF/HF antenna bandwidth/resonance testers;
  2. Providing detailed service reports and entering data to Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Service Management System (SMS) systems;
  3. Installing, commissioning, and operating (for crew training) Furuno chart radar, ECDIS, GPS, AIS, Voyage Data Recorders (including analog and digital media converters) speed log and echo sounder;
  4. Installing and commissioning Furuno ABS / DNV integrated bridge systems, including LAN1 and LAN2 network setup and management;
  5. Conducting software updates of all Furuno deep sea products, including chart radar, ECDIS, GPS, AIS, Voyage Data Recorders (including analog and digital media converters) speed log and echo sounder;
  6. Conducting Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) annual performance tests and issuing VDR Annual Performance Test (APT) certificates of compliance; and
  7. Conducting annual radio surveys, including Automatic Identification System (AIS), Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), and Signal Security Assessment System (SSAS).

Salary Range for Deep Sea Field Engineer: $70,054 to $83,936 annual + overtime. Annual bonus.

PTO accrual increases with years of service. 3.33 hours of disability bank hours accrued monthly with a maximum benefit of 240 hours. 10 paid holidays annually.
