Furuno's X-Class Radar Delivers A High-Power Solution
To NavNet TZtouch And TZtouch2

High-power X-Class Radar now available for NavNet TZtouch and TZtouch2

Camas, WA, February 16, 2017 – With the 2016 introduction of the new DRS6AX “X-Class” Radar, Furuno raised the bar on performance for traditional X-Band recreational Radar. Now, that bar has been moved up a couple of notches with the introduction of two new, high-power X-Class Radar options for NavNet TZtouch and TZtouch2, the DRS12AX and DRS25AX. These two new Radars deliver incredibly useful features at an extremely competitive price point.

Furuno has a long tradition of utilizing technology from their extensive line of commercial products in their less-expensive recreational offerings. With the introduction of the 6kW X-Class Radar in 2016, fishermen, cruisers and workboat captains alike have been able to experience the value of these advanced technologies. For fishermen in particular, the DRS12AX and DRS25AX “Bird Mode” added to your NavNet TZtouch or TZtouch2 display reaches the pinnacle of bird detection performance. Flocks of birds can easily be picked out at various ranges without manual tuning, all with a simple tap of the Bird Mode feature. It is even possible to discern the movement of individual birds within a flock utilizing Echo Trails! This kind of definition is available without compromising the presentation of other Radar targets.

Increased performance in both long and short ranges is delivered in X-Class Radars by optimizing the maximum pulse length, delivering 50% more “Power On Target” than previous DRS Radars. This is achieved by extending the maximum pulse length from 0.8 to 1.2 microseconds. At long ranges, you can easily see landmasses in great detail, and the improved short-range detection offers stunning target separation. Add Fast Target Tracking, where X-Class can detect and display instant target vectors showing heading and speed for up to 30 targets, and you’ve got a Radar that truly is in a class of its own!

“A high-quality Radar picture is key to onboard situational awareness for any vessel and crew.” said Tim Moore, General Manager of Furuno’s east coast facility. “With Furuno’s new high-powered DRS12AX and DRS25AX series Radar, we are able to offer better target detection in all ranges. This phenomenal target detection is even more impressive when coupled with Furuno’s new Fast Target Tracking and instant target vectors, making the DRS12AX and DRS25AX series Radar the best available option.”

Along with a host of major technological advancements, Furuno has made the X-Class gearbox pedestal 20% lighter and quieter than previous models, due to its new design and an improved, low-noise motor. Installation is simplified and more cost effective, as an external power supply unit is no longer required on vessels equipped with 24 VDC power. Also, the pigtail cabling means you don’t have to open the gearbox during installation.

The 12kW and 25kW X-Class are available with 3.5’, 4’ or 6’ Open Array Antennas on their new, lighter weight gearbox pedestals. Whether you are looking to spot flocks of birds in the distance or track moving targets with heading vectors and speed info, the new high-powered “X-Class” Radar is the perfect complement to Furuno’s NavNet TZtouch and TZtouch2 MFD series.
